One of the best presents that I have received in my life was this book. After reading only 20 pages of it, I was revolted by the thought of any kind of meat. I never thought that I would vow not to take a bite of that juicy steak that smells soooo good (I want to throw up as I write and think that it's 'good' because all I hear are the cows crying).

Food Inc., is a movie that I highly recommend watching if you want to know what really goes on in the farming industry...

I grew up going to a Christian school, living in a religious country. I believe in God.

Now, not a lot of people do. But for those who do, and those that do and eat meat...Alicia Silverstone posed a question that made me ponder...

Do you think that God put us in this world so we could kill and eat his other children? We are all mammals. Yes, we (humans) are lucky we have a brain (and I have half, I believe) and we are smarter than these other mammals...but what exactly makes it okay for us to feed them horrible foods (read: CORN and most likely disgusting dirty water) and then slaughter them? If you are not a farmer and live in the city, then you, just like myself, probably have no idea about how an animal is raised to be eaten. How horrible does that sound? Why is it okay to eat cows and not okay to eat dogs? Can you imagine if I got Daisy, plumped her up with...corn, simply to eat her later? Why do dogs get treated better than cows? Because they're smaller and smarter? Because a cow looks ugly and isn't 'cute'. Hm...I sure as heck hope I was not a cow in my last life, and will not be one in my next life. No, not even the famous cow that didn't get slaughtered after Congress helped her escape that horrible death.

So, how in the world did mad cow disease start?

Do you think that universal health care in the US will make the quality of care better or worse?

Here is a link to more information about the genetics of Brain Cancer that was prepared by our genetic counselor and which has links to some useful resource for those dealing with this condition: http://www.accessdna.com/condition/Brain_Cancer/67. There is also a number listed for anyone who wants to speak to a genetic counselor by phone. I hope it helps. Thanks, AccessDNA
